Chelsea's preparation for the upcoming Premier League match against Newcastle on Monday has been marred by a triple injury setback. The club, already grappling with an injury-laden season, announced on Thursday significant concerns for three of its players. Ben Chilwell is consulting a specialist for a knee issue sustained after the draw at Brentford, Levi Colwill is set to begin a rehabilitation program for a toe injury, and Conor Gallagher has been absent from training this week due to illness.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino shared his frustration regarding the persistent injury issues plaguing the team, stating, "It’s very frustrating and disappointing, because the situation has never allowed us [to] work with the full squad." When questioned about the possibility of any of Chelsea's injured players making a return against Newcastle, Pochettino remarked, "The same situation as last week. You all know now that we’ve added Levi Colwill and Chilwell to the list of injured players. Since Saturday, Gallagher has not been training because he’s got a virus. Let’s see if it’s possible for [Gallagher] to be available. We need to assess him."

Despite the setback, Pochettino remains resilient, emphasizing the need to maintain belief and continue working hard. "Yes, we are suffering this kind of negativity in terms of injuries, but we cannot stop believing and stop working. We need to give confidence to the players who will play on Monday."

The injury to Chilwell, in particular, raises concerns about his availability for Chelsea's concluding matches of the season and potentially for Euro 2024, following a hamstring injury earlier in the campaign. Chelsea is also without key players such as Christopher Nkunku, Romeo Lavia, and Reece James.

Pochettino highlighted the potential for young players to step up and cover the injuries within the squad, stating, "We need to wait until he sees the specialist. I hope it’s not a big issue but I prefer to be cautious and wait. Yesterday there were nine young kids from the academy [in training]," indicating a chance for academy players to make their mark.
