Tottenham Hotspur Captain Son Heung-min Injured in Brawl Before South Korea's Humiliating Loss to Jordan

Introduction

Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min injured his finger in a brawl with a teammate on the eve of South Korea’s humiliating loss to Jordan at the Asian Cup, according to the Korean football body. The incident occurred during dinner the night before the game, when younger players rushed through their meal to play table tennis, displeasing Son and some of the older players. Son asked his younger teammates to sit down, but disrespectful remarks were made, leading to a physical altercation. Son dislocated his finger in the process.

South Korea's Defeat

South Korea, ranked 23rd in the world, suffered a 2-0 defeat against 87th-ranked Jordan in the semi-finals of the Asian Football Confederation competition in Qatar. The team failed to register a single shot on target during the match.

Apology and Consequences

Lee Kang-in of Paris Saint-Germain, one of the younger players involved in the incident, issued an apology on social media for disappointing his fans and causing huge disappointment to football fans who support the national team. Son, on the other hand, tried to talk to the younger players initially, but the situation escalated into a physical confrontation when they refused to listen. The Korean Football Association (KFA) is yet to comment on the incident.

Son's Injury

Son was seen playing in the semi-final match with two of his fingers on his right hand strapped together. He has continued to wear the wrapping since returning to Tottenham, where he played in the recent 2-1 win over Brighton. The KFA is scheduled to convene a meeting to discuss the fate of the team's head coach, Jurgen Klinsmann, in light of the defeat.
