Thiago Silva out, Chelsea faces Manchester City in crucial Premier League clash

Chelsea defender Thiago Silva will be absent from Saturday's Premier League game against Manchester City after sustaining a groin injury in their previous match against Crystal Palace. Silva, who has made 23 league appearances this season, left the field in the second half while attempting to block a shot. Manager Mauricio Pochettino confirmed Silva's absence and stated that the injury will be assessed further. Additionally, midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka will also miss the game due to a twisted knee. However, Spanish goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, who has been out with a knee injury since December, is available for selection.

In their previous encounter in November, Chelsea held City to a 4-4 draw at home. Pochettino expressed regret for his post-match outburst towards referee Anthony Taylor and assured that it would not happen again. He emphasized the need for Chelsea to adopt an attacking approach against City, stating that they must be brave and force City to defend. Pochettino also mentioned the return of Chelsea's England midfielder Cole Palmer to City, where he spent 13 years before leaving in the close season. Pochettino acknowledged City's strength as one of the best teams in the world and the challenge of finding a place for a young player like Palmer.

Chelsea, currently in 10th place with 34 points, are 18 points behind City in the league standings. City, who are aiming for their fourth consecutive title, trail leaders Liverpool by two points with a game in hand.
