Thiago Alcantara's Injury Setback Adds to Liverpool's Woes in Title Race

Liverpool's midfielder Thiago Alcantara is set to be sidelined once again after suffering an injury setback during his brief appearance against Arsenal. The 32-year-old came off the bench in the 85th minute for his first appearance of the season but experienced a muscle problem and will need to be reassessed. This setback comes as a blow to Liverpool, who lost the top-of-the-table clash 3-1 to Arsenal, giving Manchester City the advantage in the title race.

Thiago had recently returned to training after being out of action for around 10 months. Liverpool had been cautious in bringing him back to avoid the risk of further injury. However, the Spanish international now faces another spell on the sidelines.

In addition to Thiago, Liverpool is also without Mohamed Salah, who suffered a hamstring injury while playing for Egypt in the Africa Cup of Nations. Salah's return date is uncertain, and he could be out for a few more weeks. Furthermore, Dominik Szoboszlai has been absent since picking up an injury on New Year's Day, and no return date has been set for him.

This injury setback for Liverpool comes at a crucial time, as they handed Manchester City the opportunity to take the top spot in the league with their defeat against Arsenal. Meanwhile, City is welcoming back their long-term absentees, with Kevin De Bruyne, Erling Haaland, and Manuel Akanji all making their returns in their recent match against Brentford. Liverpool will have a chance to reclaim the top spot if they secure a victory over Burnley later in the day.
