The 'Big Six' Clashes: Shaping the Premier League Title Race

The 'big six' clubs in the Premier League - Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham, and Chelsea - have traditionally dominated the top four positions in the league table. These clubs also boast the highest wage bills and have assembled the most expensive squads in terms of transfer fees.

However, the 2023-24 season has seen some interesting developments in the 'big six' clashes. Manchester City, the reigning champions, have struggled against their fellow 'big six' rivals, winning just one out of six matches. Their bid to retain the title is now in doubt.

On the other hand, Arsenal has shown up on the big occasions and remains unbeaten in 'big six' clashes this season. They have secured victories against Liverpool and both Manchester clubs, and have drawn against Chelsea, Tottenham, and Liverpool.

Tottenham, under the management of Ange Postecoglou, has improved their performance in 'big six' matches compared to the previous season. They have already accumulated more points against 'big six' opposition than they did in the entirety of last season. They have defeated Manchester United and inflicted Liverpool's only league defeat so far.

Chelsea, despite their underwhelming position in midtable, has displayed glimpses of hope in the big games. They secured a madcap victory over Tottenham and have shown spirited displays in draws against Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester City.

Liverpool, however, has struggled in the 'big six' clashes this season, with their only win coming against midtable Chelsea. Their two league defeats have come against Tottenham and Arsenal.

Manchester United has had a disappointing season, failing to secure a win against their 'big six' rivals, including Tottenham, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester City.

In terms of the head-to-head table, Arsenal currently leads with 12 points from six matches, followed by Tottenham with nine points. Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester United have accumulated seven, seven, seven, and five points respectively.

These 'big six' clashes have proven to be crucial in shaping the season for these top clubs. As the campaign progresses, it will be interesting to see how these matches continue to impact the title race and the battle for the top four positions.
