Rebecca Jones: Empowering Young Girls and Transforming Lives in the Community

Introduction

Rebecca Jones has been named the Premier League Community Captain in recognition of her outstanding work in empowering and inspiring young girls in our communities. With over 10 years of experience as a sessional coach for Arsenal in the Community, Rebecca has made significant contributions to various community projects, including the Premier League Kicks programme and the Girls Only football programme.

Empowering Young Girls

Rebecca has been instrumental in the growth of the Girls Only football programme, which now engages over 700 girls per year. This initiative has helped accelerate the women's game and provide valuable pathways for young girls. By serving as a role model, Rebecca has created a sense of pride and belonging within the Arsenal family, addressing the significant reduction in female participation during the teenage years.

Coaching Journey

Rebecca's coaching journey began during her time at London Met University, where she volunteered for the Double Club programme. Recognizing the need for more coaches, she utilized her sports science knowledge to inspire and educate young people through football. Rebecca obtained her FA Level 1 and Level 2 certifications and joined Arsenal's coaching staff in 2014.

Transforming Lives

Since joining Arsenal, Rebecca has conducted coaching sessions across estates, schools, and holiday programs, reaching a large number of young people. Her work has raised self-esteem, confidence, and transformed lives in local communities. She has also played a crucial role in developing the girls' programs and promoting inclusivity and empowerment through the Premier League Kicks program.

Recognition and Gratitude

Rebecca was presented with a bespoke print and pennant by Mikel Arteta and Takehiro Tomiyasu at the Sobha Realty Training Centre. Expressing her gratitude, Rebecca stated that receiving the community captain award is a testament to the power of collective recognition and shared purpose. She expressed her love for coaching in the local area and her passion for supporting the community.
