Marcus Rashford's Call for Old-School Positive Energy at Manchester United

Marcus Rashford, the Manchester United forward, has expressed his belief that the team is lacking in "old-school positive energy" and intends to use any negativity to his advantage. Despite a remarkable performance in the 2022/23 season, where he scored 30 goals in all competitions, Rashford's form has significantly declined this season.

Manchester United is currently facing difficulties in the Premier League and is struggling to secure a spot in the UEFA Champions League, as they are eight points behind the top four teams. Rashford, who is also a United supporter, understands the frustrations of the fans but urges those within Old Trafford to support the team.

In a statement on The Players' Tribune, Rashford acknowledged the club's transitional phase in recent seasons and emphasized the importance of a positive atmosphere. He stated, "We need more of that old-school positive energy around the club. I know what that kind of atmosphere can do because it kept me going through my worst moments. Every time I walk out onto the pitch and hear the fans singing my name or look around Old Trafford before kick-off, I feel that same positive energy."

Despite facing criticism from the media and a small section of United fans questioning his performances, Rashford remains committed to the club. He stated, "I can take any criticism, any headline, from podcasts, social media, and the papers. But if you start questioning my commitment to this club and my love for football and bringing my family into it, then I'd simply ask you to have a bit more humanity."

Rashford believes that the current squad under manager Erik ten Hag has not yet reached its full potential. He views negativity as motivation, stating, "A part of me doesn't mind it when people doubt me. Every time I've been down, physically or mentally, I always feel like that's when I turn it around and play my best football for United and England. I promise you, the world has not seen the best of this United squad and these players. We want to be back playing in the Champions League, and we have a massive international tournament at the end of the season. We will be back where we belong. We just have to keep working, and that starts with me. If you back me, good. If you doubt me, even better."
