Manchester United Manager Criticizes Refereeing Decisions in Recent Victory

Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the treatment of one of his players by Premier League referees. United's recent 2-1 victory over Luton Town brought them within five points of the top four. Despite Rasmus Hojlund scoring two goals in the opening seven minutes, Carlton Morris managed to reduce the deficit shortly after. However, Ten Hag was unhappy with several decisions that went against his team during the match at Kenilworth Road.

One particular incident involved Casemiro, who received a booking for a foul on Amari'i Bell and narrowly avoided a second caution for a challenge on Ross Barkley. Ten Hag believes that Casemiro should have been sent off and criticized referee David Coote for putting him in that position due to an unfair yellow card earlier in the game.

Casemiro's booking for the foul on Bell was deemed harsh by Ten Hag, who also expressed his frustration with the refereeing in general. He believes that Casemiro has developed a reputation with Premier League referees, leading to unfair treatment. This is not the first time Casemiro has been sent off for United since joining from Real Madrid in 2022, having received one more red card than during his seven-year spell at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Luton manager Rob Edwards also voiced his frustration with Casemiro being allowed to get away with two challenges in quick succession. However, Ten Hag acknowledged that the game's outcome is ultimately in their control and refrained from excessive complaining.

United's recent string of victories has propelled them to sixth place in the Premier League table, marking their first five-game winning streak in all competitions since January 2023.
