Liverpool and Manchester City: The Two-Horse Race for Premier League Title

Liverpool legend John Barnes has laughed off the idea of Arsenal being Premier League title contenders and insists it is only a two-horse race. Barnes' former club currently sit top of the table with 57 points after 25 games and they are the only team to have denied Manchester City in recent years. City have lifted five of the last six Premier League trophies with Liverpool the sole side to stop it becoming six in a row after they tasted glory in the 2019-20 season. Arsenal pushed City all the way last term, topping the table for 248 days, the most for a team who failed to win the title in English top-flight history. However, Barnes believes that Arsenal's chances are slim, stating that City are the favorites and Liverpool are the closest challengers. He emphasizes that Liverpool has managed to get results even when not playing well, while Arsenal needs to perform at their best to secure victories. Barnes concludes that although Arsenal is currently performing well, he still sees the title race as being between Manchester City and Liverpool. He predicts that Liverpool's win this weekend will put pressure on City, but he believes that City's strong team will handle the pressure well. In contrast, Arsenal's performance may be affected by Liverpool's result, but it won't impact City's mindset.
