Leicester City's Promotion Threatened by Potential Points Deduction

The Premier League could potentially see Leicester City start the next season with a points deduction. Leicester, who were relegated from the Premier League last season, are currently leading the Championship and aiming for an instant return to the top flight. However, the club is under investigation for two potential breaches of financial rules. It is suspected that Leicester exceeded the £105 million limit on losses for the three years leading up to last season, as well as the £83 million limit for the current season. The Premier League and Championship clubs suspect that Leicester may have already broken these rules, but due to confusion over which league is responsible for checking a club's finances when they are relegated or promoted, any punishment may be delayed. This loophole could allow Leicester to secure promotion before facing any consequences for their alleged breaches. Meanwhile, Everton and Nottingham Forest, who are also facing potential punishment for financial breaches, have already submitted their financial figures. If Leicester City secures promotion this season, they could return to the Premier League before either the EFL or Premier League has the opportunity to address any rule violations.
