Barcelona Eyes Arteta as Xavi's Successor Amid Managerial Shake-Up

Barcelona is actively seeking a new manager to succeed Xavi, with Arsenal's Mikel Arteta emerging as a primary target. Reports from Spanish outlet Relevo indicate that Barcelona's president, Joan Laporta, and director, Deco, hold Arteta in high regard, appreciating his achievements with Arsenal since his appointment in December 2019. Under Arteta's leadership, Arsenal clinched the FA Cup in 2020 and has been a strong contender in the Premier League, narrowly missing the title last season by five points. Currently, Arsenal is in the title race, trailing the leader by two points with 11 games left. Arteta's record at Arsenal stands at 130 wins out of 217 games.

However, securing Arteta's services poses challenges due to contractual obligations with Arsenal, where he has a little over a year remaining. Despite speculation linking him to Barcelona, Arteta has dismissed such rumors as 'fake news,' expressing contentment with his position at Arsenal. Barcelona is also considering other candidates, including Hansi Flick, Thomas Tuchel, and Roberto De Zerbi, to replace Xavi.

On the other hand, Xavi's tenure at Barcelona is coming to an end, following a season that fell short of expectations. Despite winning La Liga and the Supercopa de Espana in his debut season, Barcelona has struggled this year, currently sitting third in La Liga and facing early exits in other competitions. Nonetheless, Thierry Henry has defended Xavi's performance, highlighting his football intelligence and comparing him to Pep Guardiola. Xavi's departure was announced last month, and he has reportedly been contacted by five European giants since then.

In summary, Barcelona's search for a new manager has placed Mikel Arteta among the top candidates, despite the complexities involved and his current commitment to Arsenal. Meanwhile, Xavi's impending departure marks the end of an era, with his contributions as manager receiving mixed reviews but also recognition for his tactical acumen. Barcelona's next managerial appointment will be crucial in shaping the club's future direction.
